"City of stars
Are you shining just for me?"
Each time I'm at the rodeo, I chip away another chunk of marble and more of me is revealed. I call myself a composer, but more than the jingles, theme tunes and commercials I'm asked to pen, it's my ability to offer creative solutions to the mix. I'm not afraid of long-form work, I have staged musicals in pubs, historic music halls and cruise ships! I have composed for games and choirs, pop groups and podcasts. Having a masters degree in musical theatre is useful - I understand musical storytelling - oh and choreography, costumes and plenty of make-up!
Loft living in Downtown Los Angeles has given me a muse; the abandoned movie palaces on Broadway are achingly romantic, like decaying Venetian palaces, reminding us of a time when folks wore hats and gloves - yes in LA!
Currently, working with Fusion Media on their podcasts and Upright Citizens Brigade on the Quick and Funny Musical Show is honing my understanding of co-creating in the moment, often without a script but with faith that the words and the music are present. These acts of creativity are instrumental in polishing the marble of my imperfect perfection.
