'I walk along Main Street, Los Angeles, now. The juke boxes blare their welcome'
- John Rechy, City of Night
Creativity is my thing, it's my home base. I lived in London and worked as a jobbing writer and composer for 20 years, providing me with access to a vast cultural well. Now, in Los Angeles, I find an immense canvas on which to create. The artist that moves through me is the darker, introvert side of my Cancerian character. I can spend hours at my desk wearing headphones and big smile, figuring out commercials, pop songs, scores and cantatas. To him, the cave, is irresistible.
The other side of that character is lighter and more extrovert, and that's where theatre is my thing! Yes, I even have a Masters Degree in Musicals, damn it, Janet! His mantra is, let's do the show, right here!
Living in a Downtown loft at the former Million Dollar Hotel on Main Street, LA has opened fresh portals into my creative world. Alongside music, I publish a monthly podcast and give historical walking tours of Hollywood and Downtown. I find myself telling stories on the streets of this cultural mecca, somehow guided by the immense talent that has passed through the City of Stars. Talking of guides, someone recently once told me that my muse is a straight American guy...with a sense of humor! He's right here with me now and I have a really good feeling about this.
