Telling stories with music must be an ancient memory, like dancing together in time to drums or ...disco? I have a master's degree in musical theatre from Goldsmith's College, London. I am currently music director for the Upright Citizens Brigade, Quick & Funny musicals, in Los Angeles.
QUICK & FUNNY MUSICALS
We stage a new musical every two months at the Upright Citizens Brigade, Sunset Theatre.
The process is hugely collaborative and as music director, I pull together the score, create backing tracks and rehearse the cast. Some of the highlights of the past year have been Sister Act 3, Wholefoods, the musical and Eurovision, America First.
I staged Frank's Closet at Hoxton Hall, London - one of the last living Victorian music halls. Using components from traditional British Music Hall, pop-culture gay icons and LGBT anxieties, the show was a hit with audiences and the press. Time Out, London gave it 4 stars, saying "The songs are excellent, ooompahing away with top-grade innuendo, and the production itself pulses with the exuberance of old London taaaarn."
The Musical Medium
I wrote the Musical Medium for my degree show and it was picked up by the Landor Theatre in London. I loosely based Peggy's character of on real-life medium, Rosemary Brown.
